This section of the on line help, deals with all the different overlays and how to build them. Overlays cover all the forms that are not the standard step by step data capture forms. Overlays are supported on EazyTouch running on windows PCs and some overlays are supported on Android devices.

Overlays take advantage of the larger screen size that is available and generally provide options to view data in grid type formats.

Overlays are maintained in one of two places. The Selector, General Grid and Chart overlays are maintained on the Classic Function Area Maintenance form accessed as shown below

Now select the overlay type to maintain:

All other overlays including Quality Manager are maintained using the Overlay Function Definition form shown below.

The function area maintenance form has various tabs as shown above and set the data for each tab will be described separately.

Function Area Details Tab - This is the main tab where the key function area properties are defined

The Function Area form with the initial Function Area Details tab selected is shown below.

Function Area Details form

Function Area Tab

We start off by naming the function area - Note the there is both a Description and a Language Description field. The Description is what is seen internally as the function area 'Name' on all TransLution Configurator forms. The Language Description is what is displayed on the user forms - EazyTouch, EazyScan and Android. This field is what is used to give multi language support for Function Areas and Prompts. Each message can be saved in up to 5 languages and the language displayed for a given user depends on the language defined for that user. This is covered in detail in the Multi-Language section of the on line help.

It is useful to know that, when adding a Description, TransLution by default creates a Language Description that is the same as the Description. This means that no work is required to maintain Language Descriptions for an implementation in English. It may be useful however to use the description field to group functions together so that in the TransLution client they are sorted within their group. The example above shows how Overlays Functions are separated from Marketing functions in a demo database.

Function Area Type

The function area type is only used in specific circumstances. Generally it will be left as DirectERP which is the function area type for EazyScan and for Android. This will only need to be changed when configuring the General Posting Service or using Buffered scanning which are both features that are only used on historical sites. These have been replaced by new features in current versions.

Touchscreen - Overlay

You should always select the TouchScreen and Overlay checkboxes in order to use TransLution overlays. The types of overlays and how they are used are covered in detail in the Touchscreen Overlay section of the on-line help.

ERP Call

This checkbox needs to be marked if the function area will post data directly to Syspro. This is only possible with a TL Selector or General Grid overlay but it is not often used. The preference is to use a Subroutine function with a Post step.

Quality/Concurrent Settings - This tab us used to define Quality settings

Document - This tab is used to add descriptions to a function area to assist with the creation of project documentation.

The Overlay Definition form Document tab is shown below.

Tool Tip Text - This is not currently used

Function Area Description - This is intended for Documentation reporting purposes

Function Area Design Documentation - This is intended for Documentation reporting purposes.

There are two documentation blocks simply to allow for some flexibility. One block for example could include end user documentation while the second is used for technical documentation. This information is saved in the database in the Object Documentation table allowing for reports to be generated.
